The Rollup: the week of October 19

Facility Dispatch published 3 stories this week. The longer read is the analysis.

On reits & consolidation, 2 stories, including: Same-store revenue fell at Public Storage and climbed 2.4% at Extra Space in Q2 2026.

On development & site selection, 1 story, including: Atlanta council votes to require special use permits for self-storage facilities.

The REIT analysis covers three same-store pools, each built with different qualifying rules. All three are limited to large publicly traded operators; independent operators do not appear in any of the figures. In Atlanta, the council ended by-right approval for new self-storage in several commercial and industrial zones; each new facility now requires a special use permit and case-by-case review.

Development & site selection

All development & site selection
  1. Atlanta council votes to require special use permits for self-storage facilities

Atlanta's City Council adopted an ordinance on October 5 that requires special permits for self-storage and secured-storage facilities in several districts.

Our readI read this as a change in how permission is asked for, not a ban. A permit review decides each project one at a time, so the effect on any single site depends on how the city applies it.

REITs & consolidation

All reits & consolidation
  1. Same-store revenue fell at Public Storage and climbed 2.4% at Extra Space in Q2 2026

Public Storage, CubeSmart and Extra Space each posted a different same-store result in Q2 2026, with revenue ranging from -0.6% to +2.4%.

  2. Andover and Heitman launch self-storage joint ventures covering more than 106 properties

Andover Properties and Heitman say their new self-storage joint ventures launched with more than 106 properties across 16 states, with more deals planned.

Our readI read this as a launch announcement, not a result. Watch for deal terms and operating figures as properties are added.
